Fair Trade Wine
Traidcraft's Chilean white has recently changed to a 100% classic Chardonnay packed full of peach and melon. The zesty citrus fruits are best tasted cold for that long, crisp finish, and the wine should be drunk young. Fish, salads, pasta and white meats all match the fresh flavours and the 2005 vintage is quickly proving to be a must-taste year.
Vinos Los Robles is 200km south of Santiago in the Curico valley, where wine production plays an important part in the local economy. The 50 strong co-op, along with El Corazon, a member of Los Robles, guarantees the farmers a fairer price for their grapes.
Through the support of Los Robles and fair trade, El Corazon has been given a loan to develop 20 hectares of new grape varieties and install an irrigation system. So, in the future, the farmers will benefit from increased income and Los Robles from a greater supply of good grapes - all helping to make a difference, from a unique fair trade product.
