Medium Roast Fairtrade Instant Coffee made from high quality Tanzanian Arabica beans. Packed in the developing world to keep the income where it is needed most.
Fair Trade Coffee The coffee is manufactured in Southern India at a modern, state of the art processing plant. The fairly traded coffee beans are imported into India from Tanzania - from sources which are FLO certified. They are KCU (Kagera Co-operative Union) and KNCU (Kilimanjaro Native Co-operative Union Ltd).
The Kagera Co-operative Union (KCU) is based at Bukoba, on the western shores of Lake Victoria, in the far north of Tanzania near the borders with Rwanda and Uganda.
KCU was established in 1950 but only started exporting coffee when it agreed its first Fairtrade contract in 1990. Currently it sells only five per cent of its coffee through Fairtrade, but this percentage is crucial because it raises the co-operative's average income, compensating in some way for lower-price conventional sales.
KNCU is the oldest co-operative in Africa, founded in 1930. It is also one of the largest. It is owned by the farmers of the 90 primary co-operative societies which buy coffee from the farmers on Kilimanjaro.
